Repair Operations of Klimov Engines Commenced at UTair Engineering Base

UTair-Engineering JSC and UEC-Klimov JSC within the framework of the General agreement on cooperation signed in February 2018 established the first joint center for medium (reconditioning) repair of TV3-117VM/VMA engines designed by UEC-Klimov for the majority of Mil and Kamov helicopters, including the aircraft of Mi-8/Mi-17 family.
The production site owned by UTair Engineering at Plekhanovo airport territory became the base for the first joint center. Under the agreement UTair Engineering provides the logistic part of the project, fully equipped base and technical team for test checks of the engines after repair. Repair operations and technical documentation execution are provided by UEC-Klimov JSC.
The first stage of cooperation between the companies is to carry out medium engine repair at the production facilities of UTair Engineering in Tyumen, its own line maintenance stations in Russia and abroad, as well as at the bases of third-party operators of Mi-8/Mi-17 helicopters.
In the framework of cooperation, in April 2018, the medium repair of the TVZ-117VM engine was performed for Mi-8AMT of UTair-Helicopter Services. In a short time, the repair operations on the gas-air path were carried out by replacing the damaged blades and vanes of the turbo compressor, as well as the engine test on the helicopter.
In the second and third stages of the agreement implementation the support of VK-2500PS-03 engines operation will be organized as a part of the newest Russian helicopters Mi-171A2, and the geography of joint centers for the engines medium repair will be expanded and will include the territory of other countries.
According to Rashid Faradzhaev, CEO of UTair-Engineering, "The market's demand for this kind of operations – 20-30 units per year; and cooperation with UEC-Klimov in the sphere of the engine repair will enable our customers to significantly reduce the financial and time costs for restoration of the engines performance without the need for costly and time-consuming overhaul and to minimize the aircraft downtime"
"Opening of a medium repair center together with UTair Engineering - is a part of a large-scale program of UEC-Klimov for development of service support for helicopter engines, - said Alexander Vataguin, Executive Director of UEC-Klimov. – When developing the program we were guided by the principle of equal access of operators to quality service provided directly by the engine designer. It is the only way to provide the reliability improvement and continuing airworthiness for the equipment throughout its life cycle. We are happy that our partners share this vision"

UTair Engineering (a part of UTair Group) – is the biggest Russian provider of maintenance and repair services for the helicopters of Russian and foreign manufacture. It is the only company in Russia that provides the full scope of maintenance and repair services for Russian and foreign-made helicopters. The cooperation agreement with UEC-Klimov JSC, the designer of power plants for most Mil and Kamov helicopter families (TV3–117/VK-2500, VK-2500PS, TV7-117V engines), will allow the Company to ensure the fulfillment of the existing demand for medium repair of TVZ-117VM/VMA engines, as well as to increase the scope of repairs in the future, gradually increasing the capacity of the joint repair center, including through the training of new specialists in the Aviation Training Center of UEC–Klimov JSC.
